ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
Young Footliters is a non-profit, youth-centered theater organization that offers families in the Iowa City area fun, creative and educational opportunities to experience theater arts in a safe, positive and professional environment. Through our quality productions and instructional classes, Young Footliters promotes life skills such as responsibility, confidence, leadership, and cooperation, as well as appreciation of the arts. As a volunteer organization, our driving force is a network of parents & community members dedicated to creating a positive experience for everyone involved. Parent participation is vital to, and required for, the success of every production and is commensurate to the effort young people give and the enjoyment they receive. Iowa City's vibrant theater community provides Young Footliters with professional and local talent to draw upon and collaborate with in all aspects of theater production. Young Footliters is committed to the use of theater arts to encourage our young people to become involved members of their communities.

OUR HISTORY
The Young Footliters was established in 1982 by Patti Mott, assisted by Robert A. Lee and Hallie Adams with a gift of $500 from the Iowa City Community Theater (ICCT). The first show was Snow White and included 40 children of all ages. Young Footliters generally offers four productions a year. Our fall production combines youth in kindergarten through 12th grade and is performed at the Iowa City Community Theatre located at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Iowa City. There are two spring productions: one for youth in kindergarten through 4th grade; one for youth in 5th through 12th grade. Both spring performances are held at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center in Iowa City. The fourth production includes youth in kindergarten through 12th grade and is performed at the Riverside Festival Stage at Lower City Park in Iowa City.
A fifth show may be added as a summer traveling show or a second fall show, which may also travel.
