Young Footliters Act 2

Young Footliters:
A theater group dedicated to providing a positive singing and acting experience to the youth from kindergarten to 12th grade in the Iowa City area

Theater Classes

The Young Footliters is organized as a teaching, as well as performing, theatre. Our affiliation with the Iowa City Community Theatre and the Iowa City Recreation Division is based on this definition. Our policy is that only those individuals who are currently taking a theatre class, or have done so within the past 12 months of the audition date, may participate in Young Footliter productions.  Past performances do not count as a theatre class. For this reason, the Director may not cast any individual for a part in the production unless they have fulfilled this requirement.

The Young Footliters offers theatre classes throughout the year

The Iowa City Recreation Division also includes introductory and advanced classes as part of its programming.  Other theatre class options that fulfill this requirement include, but are not limited to: Riverside Theatre, the individual’s school, summer enrichment classes through the Iowa City Community School District, Market Street Theatre School, Lundy Street Productions, and the Iowa Children’s Museum.  Please consult the Young Footliter Board if questions arise on other theatre options.

This year's summer camp will include various (fun) activities and exercises designed to help young actors and theater lovers gain the skills they need to make the most of their experiences in drama - whether on stage, on the speech team, or in the classroom. Each day will focus on a different aspect of theater; starting with basic vocabulary, moving to physical and vocal skills, and building to improvisation. This camp will teach beginners the skills they need to get started and help those who are more advanced improve on their talents.

  • Day 1: Theater Terms & Basics
  • Day 2: Body Language
  • Day 3: The Voice
  • Day 4: Scene Building & Improvisation
  • Day 5: Pulling it all together!
